“Some facilities are practicing different forms of adding liquid to their landfill to run their facilities as bioreactors [where liquids are injected or pumped into landfills at a prescribed rate to increase gas generation and stabilize waste],” says Bob Gardner. With five decades of field experience and landfill engineering, SCS has found limits to how liquid can be added without tipping that balance leading to outbreaks on side slopes, stability issues, and odors.
